WALTER RUDOLPH
Senior Producer
Walter B. Rudolph was a student producer and announcer for KBYU-FM in the late 1960s, when he produced Wednesday Night Opera and a weekly Masterworks program. Following completion of a B.A. in voice and M.A. in musicology at BYU, he taught music at the University of Minnesota (Morris campus), then sang with the Chorus of Lyric Opera of Chicago, Music of the Baroque, and the Grant Park Summer Festival. He joined Classical 89 in 1977 as program manager and has served as station manager since the early 1980s. In his 30+ years at the station he defined the classical music format. Among his mentors he is quick to mention Tom Griffiths, Bruce Reed, Giorgio Tozzi, Owen Rich, Val Capers, James Clark, Jack Peterson, Tom Mathiesen, Clifford Barnes, Newell Dayley, and James Mason. Walter has developed broadcast relationships with the likes of Utah Symphony and Utah Opera, the BYU School of Music, Utah Festival Opera, Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, Madeleine Festival, Grand Teton Music Festival, and a number of other artists and ensembles. As a radio producer, he has created special programs to reveal the artistry of some of the greatest singing artists of the last several generations.
