Why We Should Care about Invasive Species
Val Anderson, Phil Allen, and Bruce Roundy are scientists who have studied ecosystems to learn about the dynamics of balance and imbalance. Competition between species can be fierce, resulting in a broad spectrum of living systems, from monocultures to more healthy, diversified communities. If dyer's wode or cheatgrass seem of little concern to you, what about raging wildfires that cost millions? Another important question they discuss is the matter of whether or not any system where humans live or have intervened can really be "restored" to its original condition.—Original airdate: 11/20/2006
