Jini Roby on International Adoptions
American citizens are seeking to adopt children in ever increasing numbers. The US State Department reports that with the reduction in children available for adoption in the United States, more and more US citizens have adopted children from other countries. You may be familiar with Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie, Madonna, and Meg Ryan who are among this growing trend. On the today's Thinking Aloud, we're moving beyond Hollywood and turning our attention to average Americans wanting and waiting to adopt children from foreign countries. We'll talk to scholar Jini Roby from the BYU Department of Social Work. Roby has been involved in key legislation in the area of international adoptions. We're discussing what's at stake, what's the impact, and who's paying what price in the baby trade?—Original airdate: 11/23/2007
