Thinking Aloud
Scots in Utah
Since the early days of Utah's settlement by peoples of European descent, Scots have figured among the many immigrant ethnic groups. Scholars Fred Buchanan and Douglas Stout are among some of the more recent immigrants, each having come to the state of Utah in 1949. Being Scottish is about more than just the external trappings of kilts, tartans, and bagpipes. We discuss in greater depth what it means to be Scottish, and specifically what it feels like to be a Scottish away from Scotland.—Original airdate: 11/24/2006
