Thinking Aloud
Utah Dialects
In Utah, you might hear someone say, "My sellboat was takin' on water, so I had to bell it out with a pell." Local color can also be detected in proper names like "The Hell Center Theatre," you know, said just like hell, as in "golf ball-sized hell." We're talking to Wendy Baker and David Eddington, professors in the Linguistics Department at Brigham Young University. They're giving us an in-depth look into Utah regionalisms and dialects, on today's Thinking Aloud.—Original airdate: 12/28/2007
