Modern-Day Slavery in Our Midst and Abroad
Today's discussion is occasioned by the March 2007 bicentennial commemoration of the British abolition of the slave trade. Our guest is noted author and professor Kevin Bales, president of Free the Slaves. Human rights activists say slavery has never really stopped. The evidence is documented and undeniable, and yet most advanced societies turn a blind eye toward it. Organizers of the nonprofit organization called Free the Slaves say there are 27 million slaves in the world today, with some of those slaves right here in America.
