Sam Quinones: Other Heroine--America's Exploding Addiction to Rx Opiates
Starting in the late 1990s, an explosion of addiction to prescribed painkillers began to sweep America.  Addiction to opiates is now found everywhere, in rich cities and poor rural counties and among all races and social classes.  What few people realize is that it is also a common gateway to heroin addiction, a drug which has also come roaring back of late in part because of historically low prices for it.  The journalist Sam Quinones has written the definitive book on this important, debilitating social phenomenon.  He’s hear to talk about it with host Marcus Smith on today’s Thinking Aloud.—Original airdate: 3/8/2017
