Thinking Aloud
Socially Distinct Newcomer to the Office
Most of us have the need to feel like we belong ... that we're an accepted member of a social group. Once we belong, we intuitively believe that our group will be most successful when it's composed of like-minded people with the same goals. But what if someone new comes along and challenges that notion? On today's Thinking Aloud, Katie A. Liljenquist joins us to discuss the new kid on the block, and the surprisingly positive effect that outsider can have on a group. Dr. Liljenquist is an assistant professor of organizational leadership and strategy at the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.—Original airdate: 9/24/2009
